Assignment 2 - In Progress Critique

Here are my 3 picks for the in-progress critique....

  1. I like the second one and the third one the best. I think that in the second picture there could be a little more contrast and that this would help to brighten the maru in the eye. The last one looks like she was caught in the act of doing something she may not have been...so cute!

  2. i really love the first umbrella one! the raindrops are so clear. i like the depth of field as well :) i also enjoy the second umbrella picture, maybe one thing you could do is take the black lines off her face..i believe its her hair. its still gorgeous tho, her eyes are so intense.

  3. I like the "angry look" in the third image. Maybe you can crop most of the edges to emphasize it :)

  4. good use of framing/cropping in all three. if you reshoot the second image try to keep the glimmer in the eye and the same sense of age/nonage. one thing to try in editing for this one is to brighten just a tad the white of her eye with the glimmer. it might make the glimmer pop out even more. you might also try (although im not positive if it will be a good change)to see what happens if you blur out the grass/fence in the bottom image. it might further frame her and mimic the blurred umbrella in the top part of the image. if you reshoot the second image, consider if you need the item in the background. it does create a context, but right now it is unclear what the item is so it might not be necessary in the frame????

  5. i really like the angles in these photos, especially in the second and third images. you captured the subjects' emotions very well!

  6. I think of your three, the last is definitely the strongest - the contrast and the emotion on her face is very striking. I also think that a little more contrast in the second image, as well as the first, would really help them out. If you could find a way to heighten the detail on the raindrops for the first image, I think that would enhance it.

  7. My favorite is the 3rd photo. The subject almost looks angry, so I like the emotion that comes across to the audience. I also like how the umbrella is out of focus even though it is closest to the camera, rather than the person being out of focus. Plus, the angle of the umbrella cuts across the photo nicely, so it creates a cool composition.

I also like the lighting of the 2nd. It works nicely with the pose of the girl.

The first photos, I like how the girl isn't looking directly at the camera, so it doesn't look staged. I think the photo is too dark though. So maybe a bit more contrast?

  8. I really like the first and third ones with the umbrellas. The way the umbrella is placed promotes the idea of something being hidden in the image, either in regard to the subject's internal self or something else. It makes it really interesting. Especially in the third one where it is blocking part of her face. The fact that we can only see one eye makes it even more intense to me. I also like in the third one how the closest part of the umbrella is blurry, because it really draws the viewer in to focus on the face.

  9. The raindrops on the umbrella in the first portrait are nice and sharp, but I feel that they steal my eyes from viewing the girl.

The pose is interesting in the middle portrait and her arm leads my eyes straight to her face. If the contrast was increased, the portrait might be more eye catching.

I really like how there is a clear foreground, middle ground and background within your third portrait. The blurry foreground pushes my view to the middle, while the sharp background stops my eyes from moving from the middle ground.

  10. great composition in these…the first umbrella image could use a little more light in the face, but I love that you can see the rain. I love the posture of the hand in the third photo…and the middle one is fantastic

  11. I think they all look awesome! My only suggestion is maybe in the first one play with the contrast a little bit, i think that really dramatic lighting could really add the the image.

  12. Your pictures are great. I love the first one because the texture and tone that the rain adds to the scene. The could be more differentiation between the hair and shadows of the umbrella, however I think it adds to it.
